The first activity of the four-workshop project, “US-Funded Workshops for Exposure of High School Students to Nanotechnology for Sustainable Energy in Pakistan,” took place on July 12th, 2023, at the Center for Advanced Electronics and Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE), IIU Islamabad. Led by Professor Dr. Habib Ahmad, this workshop was supported by the U.S. Mission in partnership with the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN).
A total of 30 students and 2 faculty members with science and engineering backgrounds participated in the workshop, representing five different schools and colleges: F.G. Sir Syed College Rawalpindi, Iqra College of Technology Islamabad, Fazaia Inter College Nurkhan Rawalpindi, Alhuda International School Islamabad, and Siddeeq Public School Rawalpindi. The workshop ran from 9 am to 5 pm.
Throughout the day, the students were immersed in hands-on learning and engaging scientific activities, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment, to explore Pakistan’s energy and nanotechnology requirements. They gained valuable insights into nanotechnology as a potential career path and how advancements in this field could enhance our living standards in numerous ways.
The workshop sparked the students’ curiosity and broadened their imagination through practical demonstrations. They expressed gratitude to the organizers and funders of the event, while also demonstrating a keen interest in future opportunities for exposure to nanotechnology.
