Ripple Effect of Lessons Learnt During IVLP Exchange Program

Meet our inspiring alumnus Adnan Khan Shinwari who hails from Tehsil Kotal of District Khyber located on Western border of Pakistan and Afghanistan and is badly affected by terrorism since 2001.

In 2018, Adnan was invited by U.S. Consulate General Peshawar to participate in one of their prestigious culture exchange programs named International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) which is one of the best programs for emerging young leaders in the world. The theme of 2018 IVLP was ‘Strengthening Local Governance in FATA’. For this fellowship, he visited Washington DC, California, Oklahoma, Mississippi, New York where he met different Tribal leaders (Red Indian) and came to know about their education, health, police, justice, and finance system. In 2019, Adnan was appointed as Advisor to MNA and Chairman of the SEFRON Committee in National Assembly of Pakistan.

Adnan has natural personality, intuition, and general gusto for leadership. His leadership potential was fully unlocked during his academic life in Peshawar where he moved to pursue higher education. Being a student leader, in 2007 he worked as President of Govt. College Peshawar, in 2008 President University of Peshawar, in 2009 chief organizer of FATA. He visited different districts of FATA like Mohmand, Bajaur, Kurram, North Waziristan and Khyber. He is also a recipient of USAID Scholarship through Khushali Bank for studying Masters in Economics. He worked with different humanitarian organizations. He also remained the first elected Chairman of FATA Youth Jirga.

Adnan is deeply grateful to the PUAN, U.S. Mission in Pakistan and U.S. Consulate General Peshawar for providing him this opportunity to explore the USA and improve his leadership skills.
