Speakers Discuss Deepfakes in PUAN’s Master Class on Fake News

Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN), with the support of U.S. Mission Pakistan, is organizing a five-day masterclass on Fact-checking at Forman Christian College (A Chartered University). Day 4 of the masterclass has sessions by national and international speakers who spoke about deepfakes and navigating facts vs. fakes in war and conflict.

Mr. Adeel Ahmad Amir, Assistant Professor at the Department of Mass Communication, FCCU conducted a workshop on spotting fake news. He discussed various tools and techniques to identify deepfakes and social media trends. Prof. Elisabeth Eide, Professor of Journalism Studies at Oslo Metropolitan University joined via video link to discuss how fake news spread in the context of war and conflict. Dr. Jatin Srivastava, Director, Institute for International Journalism at Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, conducted an online session in which discussed definitional issues and audience factors in the age of fake news.

The day also witnessed a mindfulness and meditation session by Ms. Shanze Sumreen Faiz, Founder of the Modern Malang. Participants thoroughly enjoyed the session and got the chance to unwind after extensive workshops. Journalists, editors, and media students from all over Pakistan are attending the masterclass.
