Championing Sustainability: The Inspiring Journey of Hafiz Jawad Sohail

Under our Eco-Warriors series of PUAN, let’s explore Hafiz Jawad Sohail’s impactful journey that unfolds through dedication and empowerment. Emerging from the PUAN Central Punjab (Lahore) chapter, he’s a climate activist and sustainability professional at WWF-Pakistan’s Freshwater Programme. Yet, his influence transcends boundaries.

In 2023, Hafiz participated in the Pakistan Air Quality Program, a transformative exchange experience. Today, he works passionately on advisory boards and collaborations, at both global and local levels, to enhance youth participation in vital climate initiatives.

His advocacy resonates deeply in the “Youth and Climate” domain, showcased on international stages like COP26 and COP27, as well as in local engagements. Concurrently, he champions UNESCO’s “Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)” agenda, driven through the Global Schools Program of UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

Hafiz’s reach is truly global; a Queen’s Young Leader and Climate Ambassador with the World Bank’s Y2Y Community: GYCN. Engaging fervently with YOUNGO, the Official Youth Constituency of UNFCCC, he’s been instrumental in shaping youth conferences such as COY16 and COY17.

His leadership is hallmarked by advocacy for meaningful youth involvement, climate action, policy advancement, and sustainability. Hafiz’s network, advocacy, and engagements intertwine to pave a path toward a more sustainable future. Notably, his commitment led him to nominate WWF-Pakistan as a co-organizer for the recent “National Climate Emergency Conference.”
