Rome Calling: Aroosa’s Invitation to the Global Youth Dialogue on Sustainable Livestock

In a remarkable turn of events, Aroosa Dawood, our Global UGRAD Alumna from the Spring of 2019, achieved a significant milestone in her career as a veterinarian. She was invited to participate in the first-ever Global Youth Dialogue on Sustainable Livestock Transformation, coinciding with the FAO Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation in Rome, Italy, held from September 25 to 27, 2023, at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations headquarters.

Aroosa, along with 82 young individuals from 40 different countries, representing diverse backgrounds in agriculture, including veterinarians, farmers, and producers, gathered at this fully funded platform. Their mission was clear: to amplify their voices, share their experiences, and address the challenges they face in the field of sustainable livestock and agriculture.

One of the key issues they discussed was the declining interest of youth in livestock and agriculture farming and brainstorming potential solutions. It was an opportunity for young advocates like Aroosa to engage with like-minded individuals from across the globe, united in their commitment to driving positive change.

Towards the conclusion of this inspiring dialogue, the participants collaboratively crafted a youth statement. This statement was presented to influential figures, including the Ministers from all UN member countries and the Director General of FAO. Aroosa emphasized the importance of hearing the youth’s perspective, as their insights are crucial in facilitating the transformational change necessary in the agricultural and livestock sector. This sector not only impacts our daily lives but also plays a pivotal role in environmental sustainability and addressing global climate change.

Aroosa’s journey and her involvement in the Global Youth Dialogue on Sustainable Livestock Transformation serve as a beacon of hope for the future of agriculture. With her dedication and passion, she is contributing to a brighter and more sustainable future for us all.
