Internship Impact: PUAN Alumna Develops SDG Framework for FJWU

A meaningful step forward in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthening the role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in promoting sustainability across Pakistan!

As part of the PUAN National Internship Program 2025, UGRAD 2022 alumna Sadia Irfan worked under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Bushra Yasmin at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU). Together, they developed a comprehensive SDGs Mapping Framework for the university, a strategic guide that systematically addresses all 17 SDGs and aligns FJWU’s teaching, research, policy, and community engagement with the global sustainability agenda. To ensure rigor and global relevance, the team drew on internationally recognized resources, including the SDG4U Mapping Tool and the UNEP FI Impact Radar Mappings (May 2023). Using these tools, they created an evidence-based, context-sensitive framework that highlights universities contributions to each SDG and provides a mechanism for tracking, assessing, and enhancing its impact.

This initiative lays the foundation for FJWU’s first Institutional SDG Report, an important milestone toward national and global SDG rankings. It also reflects the university’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in advancing sustainable development.

The experience not only contributed to FJWU’s sustainability leadership but also provided Sadia with hands-on learning in research, policy alignment, and global reporting standards. PUAN’s support and Dr. Bushra’s mentorship played a pivotal role in making this achievement possible.
