Finding Her Voice: Komal Khan’s Journey from Classroom to Campus Radio

Komal Khan (English Works 2022–23), a final-year Mass Communication student at the University of Karachi and member of the PUAN Karachi Chapter, recently completed her internship with the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN), an experience that helped her connect classroom learning with practical media work.

During her internship, Komal documented archived radio broadcasts of Campus Radio FM 90.6, carefully maintaining detailed records of program titles, themes, and public service messages. A highlight of her experience was scripting, voicing, and producing a special documentary on Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for Independence Day, which aired on 14th August. This project not only enhanced her skills in scriptwriting, narration, and production, but also gave her the confidence to step forward as a storyteller. Regular voice-over practice further refined her delivery and on-air presence.

Komal credits her mentor, Ms. Samina Qureshi (SUSI for Scholars 2021), for her encouragement and guidance throughout the internship. She reflects: “This internship was a valuable milestone that enriched my academic foundation and strengthened my professional skills in media and communication.”

Komal’s story is a shining example of how PUAN internships equip alumni with the tools to transform knowledge into meaningful professional growth.
