USEFP and PUAN extend thier deepest condolences on the passing of Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, a Fulbright Scholar and a leader in Pakistan’s economic and public service sector. Dr. Akhtar was the first woman to serve as Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan and the first woman elected as Chairperson of the Pakistan Stock Exchange Board.

She was a Fulbright postdoctoral research fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1986. Our thoughts are with her family, colleagues, and all who were touched by her extraordinary life and work.
