Approximately 50 young people and early-career professionals from Islamabad and Rawalpindi strengthened their artificial intelligence, communication, and career-readiness skills through a three-day intensive bootcamp under the PUAN Grant initiative, “Future-Proofing Youth: Upskilling for the AI-Driven Workforce.”
Led by Bushra Mahmood, a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program 2014–2015 alumna, the three day bootcamp concluded on August 9, 2026 at Cowork24 and formed part of a broader 16-week initiative focused on Workforce Readiness for Trade, Technology, and Investment.

Across three intensive days, participants engaged in hands-on training covering generative AI platforms, advanced prompt engineering, AI-assisted career branding, Design Thinking, local business modeling, professional communication, and workplace soft skills.
The bootcamp concluded with remarks by Katie Smith, Public Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy Islamabad, followed by certificate distribution.

In her closing remarks, Smith highlighted the importance of preparing young professionals to navigate rapidly changing workplaces and recognized the value of initiatives that connect practical learning with industry expertise.
The three-day bootcamp represents a key component of Mahmood’s broader 16-week PUAN Grant initiative, which also incorporates continued engagement and mentorship.
The sessions focused on helping participants understand how AI can support research, problem-solving, productivity, creativity, and professional development. Practical exercises in prompt engineering demonstrated how clear instructions, context, and objectives can improve the quality of AI-generated outputs.
Participants also explored how AI can support career branding, including CV development, professional positioning, communication, and preparation for technology-enabled recruitment environments.

A dedicated segment on Design Thinking and business modeling encouraged participants to identify real-world problems, understand user needs, and develop practical solutions using digital tools and structured problem-solving approaches.
A major feature of the bootcamp was direct engagement with professionals from S&P Global, who shared industry perspectives on technology, recruitment, workplace expectations, and career development.
Speakers and mentors included Usman Nazir, Director of Business Systems & Business Analysis; Abdul Rauf, Associate Director, AI People Platforms; Samia Abbasi, Senior Program Manager, HR; Ayesha Shah, Technology Recruiter; and Fatima Hussain, Recruiter Talent Acquisition, alongside visiting guest mentors.
Through keynote sessions and interactive speed mentoring, participants gained practical insights into the skills employers increasingly value, including digital adaptability, communication, critical thinking, professional branding, and the ability to work effectively with emerging technologies.
Bushra designed the initiative drawing on more than 13 years of experience in higher education, communication, and linguistic pedagogy. As a Fulbright FLTA Fellow at New York University in 2014–2015, she served with NYU’s Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies and gained exposure to student-centered teaching and technology-supported learning. She also participated in the STARTALK Teacher Training Program.
After returning to Pakistan, Mahmood taught at institutions including Bahria University, the National University of Modern Languages, and the International Islamic University Islamabad, with a focus on business communication, public speaking, academic writing, and professional skills development.
By combining AI literacy, professional communication, career preparation, business thinking, and industry mentorship, the initiative is helping emerging professionals in Islamabad and Rawalpindi build practical capabilities for an increasingly technology-driven global workforce.
