‘A Piece of My Heart will Always be in Emporia’

Sahra Iqbal is our UGRAD alumna (January 2022). She went to an exchange semester at Emporia State University. Spending five months at Emporia State University not only made her independent in terms of living but also ensured her growth as a person, polishing her leadership and time management skills. “A piece of my heart will always be in Emporia,” shared Sahra.

“Throughout my journey, I met people from different countries and cultures and learned to live with diversity, especially when it came to communicating with them and adapting to each other’s lifestyles and ideas”.

She participated in several community service opportunities which instilled in her a sense of gratitude and immense passion to help her community. At Emporia State University, she helped in arranging the food pantry at the student’s assistance food pantry called ‘Corky’s cupboard. After returning from her exchange program, she went to Gilgit, Gahkuch Aga Khan Higher Secondary School campus to help students in developing their life skills. She conducted a nature talk session in the morning with the students.

The exchange program also assisted her in being confident about doing paperwork, taxation, documentation, and bank work. It surely made her a better leader and decision maker, due to which, she strongly believes in herself, her ideas, personality, and choice today. “I am highly grateful for the opportunity I got, and the crucial things I learned throughout the journey”.

Currently, Sahra is doing B.Ed. (Hons.) from Government Elementary College of Education, Hussainabad. As a future educator, she looks forward to working with students and helping them become important assets to the country. She hopes she can continue the community service work with the same zeal for a better future of her country.
