Asia Saleh Khattak: Championing Health and Hygiene in Pakistan

Under 16 Days of Activism, meet our IVLP alumna Asia Saleh Khattak. Ayesha is a dynamic member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, lawyer, social activist, and advocate for human rights with a special focus on women’s rights. Asia’s multifaceted career reflects her commitment to creating positive change in her community. Asia has been at the forefront of legislative efforts, addressing crucial issues such as transgender protection and the rights of acid burn victims. Her passion for human rights extends to her role as a master trainer, where she imparts knowledge on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), gender mainstreaming, leadership, and climate change.

2023 IVLP Impact Award Project: WASH, Health, and Hygiene: Asia’s impactful project focuses on addressing a critical issue in rural communities—lack of access to proper handwashing facilities and awareness about hygiene practices. The goals include raising awareness, increasing access to clean water and reliable sanitation, promoting basic hygiene in rural areas, improving hygiene among children and girls, and enhancing facilities in schools.

Asia has conducted 8 workshops in different schools as part of her WASH, Health, and Hygiene project. These workshops are a stepping stone towards achieving the project’s goals, with a final report forthcoming to share the full extent of the impact.

Asia Saleh Khattak’s project not only focuses on immediate health concerns but aims to empower communities with knowledge and resources. By instilling good hygiene practices, especially among children and girls, Asia is contributing to a healthier and more empowered future.

Asia’s dedication exemplifies the transformative power of grassroots initiatives.

Let’s celebrate her commitment to creating a better, healthier, and more just society!
