By: Shehneela Mazhar

From the bustling city of Hyderabad, Sindh, Dr. Kinza Yousafani, a U.S. Pakistan University Partnership Program, 2013 alumna, took a bold step to create awareness on the crucial issue of ‘Cyber Security.’ Through a series of workshops in various academic institutes, her Alumni Small Grant (ASG) project aimed to educate and empower young individuals, especially females, in safeguarding themselves against cyber threats.

With a deep commitment to addressing cyber threats and vulnerabilities, Dr. Kinza recognized the urgent need to bridge the knowledge gap among young people, who are highly exposed to the digital world but lack guidance on its implications. The project was driven by her passion to create a safe virtual environment, empower the youth with updated knowledge, and foster a culture of cyber security.

The primary purpose of the project was to promote awareness and understanding of cyber security, especially among females. Through training sessions, open discussions, and writing complaints to the FIA, participants were equipped with the necessary knowledge to protect themselves from online risks. Counseling services were provided to those in need, emphasizing the project’s commitment to holistic support.

The project left a significant impact on its beneficiaries, with 630 direct and 2500 indirect participants benefiting from the sessions. Many shared their transformational experiences, such as a participant who confessed to online hacking but, after the sessions, publicly apologized and vowed to change his ways. Another young woman learned the importance of data sensitivity, vowing to educate her friends about the risks of future blackmailing.

Dr. Kinza’s experience of collaborating with the U.S. Mission and PUAN was nothing short of positive. Both organizations demonstrated unwavering support, providing guidance and resources to ensure the project’s success. The presence of both entities at the closing ceremony further exemplified their commitment to promoting digital safety.

Dr. Kinza Yousafani’s journey in raising awareness on cyber security has paved the way for a safer and more informed digital future. Through her workshops and counseling services, she has empowered countless young individuals to protect themselves against cyber threats.

As we move forward, let us continue to foster a culture of cyber security, ensuring that the digital landscape remains a safe and empowering space for everyone. Together, we can create a world where technology is used responsibly, and the youth are equipped with the knowledge to navigate the digital world confidently.
