Freedom 250: From Canvas to Commerce-Nomail Maryum’s Entrepreneurial Journey

For Nomail Maryum, art began as a personal passion. Today, it is the foundation of a growing business and a platform for sharing Pakistan’s natural beauty with audiences around the world.

A resident of Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nomail is an artist, entrepreneur, and member of the PUAN KP Chapter. She joined the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network after completing the Global Online Course in Fall 2023 and has since served as a Teaching Assistant for the Access Scholarship Program in Mansehra.

Her entrepreneurial journey began in 2018 when she started painting as a hobby. Over time, that hobby evolved into a deeper commitment to artistic expression and cultural storytelling. By 2022, she had transformed her passion into a business, launching Nomail’s Artistry and selling her paintings to clients across Pakistan and abroad.

Along the way, she actively participated in exhibitions, art awareness seminars, and educational programs. Her dedication earned her recognition at the national level when she won an award in the category of Realistic Landscapes. She has also served as a jury member for provincial art competitions, further contributing to Pakistan’s creative community.

Nomail specializes in hyper-realistic, nature-inspired paintings that capture the beauty of Pakistan’s landscapes. Much of her work is inspired by the breathtaking scenery of the country’s northern regions. Several of her paintings are displayed at tourist destinations in Gilgit-Baltistan, reflecting both her artistic vision and her deep appreciation for Pakistan’s natural heritage.

Through her work, she has built a sustainable source of income while steadily growing her social media presence and expanding her customer base. Participating in the PUAN Masterclass 2026: E-Commerce and Digital Trade- Building Pakistan-U.S. Economic Partnerships June 8-12, 2026 provided Nomail with new tools and perspectives for taking her business to the next level. The recent Masterclass strengthened her understanding of digital trade, cross-border payments, brand storytelling, customer segmentation, and digital marketing. It also introduced her to practical approaches for using artificial intelligence and e-commerce tools to reach new audiences.

Over the next six months, Nomail plans to transform Nomail’s Artistry from a regional art business into a digitally driven brand capable of serving customers internationally. She intends to strengthen her presence on platforms such as Etsy and Artsy, expand her reach through targeted social media campaigns, and use AI-powered tools to enhance content creation and customer engagement. She also plans to explore digital licensing and print-on-demand opportunities, making her artwork more accessible to buyers in the United States and Europe while reducing logistical barriers associated with shipping original paintings.

For Nomail, growth is about more than expanding sales. It is also about creating opportunities for others. Her long-term vision is to promote Pakistan’s cultural heritage through digital platforms while creating economic opportunities for artists and young creatives, particularly in northern Pakistan. By connecting traditional artistic expression with modern technology and global markets, she hopes to encourage creative entrepreneurship and contribute to Pakistan’s growing digital economy.

As she implements the six-month export roadmap developed during the PUAN Masterclass, Nomail is demonstrating how creativity, innovation, and digital skills can help transform local talent into global opportunity.
