From Freelancing to Leadership: Maha Wakeel’s Transformative Internship at GIKI

PUAN alumna Maha Wakeel (English Works 2023) is all set to completed her PUAN National Internship 2025 at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) under PUAN National Internship Program 2025. Maha describes this internship program as one of the most rewarding and transformative journeys of her life.

Her selection was especially notable, as GIKI rarely hires interns from outside its own student body. Maha’s strong freelancing background, as a graphic designer and video editor on platforms like Fiverr and LinkedIn since her teenage years, became the foundation of her contributions. During GIKI’s 31st Convocation, she designed certificates and chest cards, drafted event reports, and managed live social media coverage. The event also gave her the opportunity to meet former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. Later, at the Oath-Taking Ceremony, she engaged with the President of SOPRESS and distinguished alumni, exchanging stories of growth and learning.

A defining element of her internship was the mentorship of Sabahat Hussain (International Visitor Leadership Program (2016) who provided guidance and invited her into internal meetings with the Dean and senior faculty, granting her a rare glimpse into university-level decision-making. Maha’s dedication was further recognized by Associate Professor Minhas Majeed Khan Marwat, Head of the IR Department, who honored her as the “Pride of the Department.”

Beyond her internship duties, Maha actively represented PUAN within GIKI, encouraging students to apply for the program. She also continued her work as an ambassador for Parwane Khanam, celebrating Independence Day with the community and reinforcing her commitment to women’s empowerment.

On a personal level, Maha achieved milestones she never imagined, such as learning swimming at a professional level. Coupled with her freelancing journey that fostered independence and work ethic, this internship became a defining chapter that blended creativity, leadership, and advocacy.

Maha’s PUAN National Internship 2025 stands as a story of growth, recognition, and meaningful contribution.
