From Islamabad to the ICJ Bench: PUAN Member’s Journey to Jessup 2025

In 2021, Muhammad Ameer Hamza Khan joined the PUAN family as part of the SUSI Cohort from Islamabad. This year, his journey came full circle on an international stage.

Representing not just Pakistan but also the PUAN community, Ameer was appointed as a Judge at the 2025 International Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C.—the world’s largest moot court competition, bringing together law students from nearly 700 institutions across 100 countries.

What made this experience even more remarkable? Ameer served alongside sitting judges of the United Nations International Court of Justice, including Juan Manuel Gómez Robledo, Georg Nolte, and Joan Donoghue, former President of the ICJ.

“The Jessup is more than a competition,” Ameer shares. “It’s a space where future leaders of international law are shaped. Judging this year’s rounds was a humbling honor. I dedicate this milestone to my professors at UMass, whose guidance made this possible.”

PUAN takes immense pride in its members who continue to break barriers and make their mark globally. Ameer’s story is a reminder that the impact of exchange programs reaches far beyond borders. Muhammad Ameer Hamza Khan is currently the LLM candidate at Lincoln University, UK and we wish him best of luck for his future endeavors.
