Plastic pollution threatens our environment, and Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) Karachi Chapter is taking action!

As part of their Country Project on “Climate Change: Protecting Local Communities,” PUAN Karachi Chapter organized a thought-provoking panel discussion at the Habitt Auditorium in Karachi. The event brought together around 70 participants, including PUAN alumni, environmental journalists, students, and scholars. Six expert panelists highlighted the importance of reducing plastic use and shared valuable insights on alternative options. International researchers from Oxford University, Ms. Annaline (Canada) and Ms. Sadaie-d-Costa (Netherlands), also presented their research on Indus marine life and suggested measures to reduce plastic pollution.

The objective of this discussion was to raise awareness about plastic pollution and promote sustainable practices, with a focus on its impact on local and coastal communities. Participants were encouraged to embrace eco-friendly alternatives and make lifestyle changes that reduce the plastic burden. By adopting sustainable practices, we can protect our climate and create a cleaner future.

The panel discussion was led by the dynamic leadership of Mushtaq Sarki (President), Faiz Rasool (Vice President), and Mukhtar Wali (Exchange Ambassador) of the Karachi Chapter. We extend special thanks to the expert panelists, including Mr. Ghazi Salahudin (Head WWF Sindh & Baluchistan), Dr. Bhavita Kumari (Fulbright alumnus, Researcher Public Health & Moderator), Zahra Ali Syed (Sustainability Consultant of Climate Change), Shabina Faraz (Climate Change Journalist BBC), Farhan Ali (Health Safety Environment Officer), and Taha Siddiqui (Water Resources Researcher), for their commitment to this cause. Their expertise and inspiration will empower participants to take concrete actions in combating climate change and protecting local communities.
