science labGlobal UGrad Alumna Leads Science Workshop for Underprivileged Kids

Saba Safdar (2012 Global UGrad alumna) organized a workshop Dec. 1-2 at Islamabad’s National University of Science Technology (NUST) to introduce 40 young minds to the field of science. The participants were students from the Embassy’s English Access program and local community schools.

The workshop included lectures about the human genome, and lab experiments to introduce the students to the scientific method. The activity is part of the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) Islamabad-Rawalpindi Chapter’s efforts to encourage youth, especially girls, to pursue careers in science and technology.

The Pakistan-United States Alumni Network (PUAN) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally-Administered Tribal Areas Chapter organized a November 27 orientation session on Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) scholarship opportunities at the Institute of Management Sciences (IM). SUSI alumni discussed the application procedure and students followed up with a question-and-answer session.

Multan Alumni Chapter Hosts University Tour for English Access Students

The Pakistan-United States Alumni Network (PUAN) Multan Chapter hosted more than 200 English Access Muzaffargarh program participants, including students, teachers, and administrators, on a study tour at Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan. Alumni motivated the group to work toward admission to prestigious institutions like the Bahauddin Zakariya University. The students also met with the university’s Vice Chancellor who is an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alum.
