Nuaman Ishfaq Mughal Takes Initiatives Benefitting Community

Nuaman Ishfaq Mughal is our alumnus of the Study of the United States (SUSI) program. Returning to Pakistan after completing the SUSI program at the University of Massachusetts in 2018, Mr. Mughal actively pursued journalism. He covered parliament, foreign affairs, environment, and climate change news beats. He also covered Asia Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forums in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Manila, Philippines, and attended Deutsche Welle (DW) Global Media Forum in Bonn, Germany. In 2020, Nuaman was selected for Pakistan U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) Honorary Council. He served as PUAN Honorary Counselor for the period of 2 years.

In 2021, Nuaman Ishfaq Mughal implemented the ‘Gender mainstreaming and Climate Change in Pakistan’ project as the pre to the twenty-sixth Conference of the Parties (COP26). There were various activities under this project for journalists and environmental activists with an aim to sensitize them to bring awareness about climate change adaptation and mitigation and local habitats protection.

In 2022, Nuaman Ishfaq Mughal along with Ken LeBlond started a podcast series named, ‘Chai and Coffee: Pakistan-Talks’ with the objective to strengthen people-to-people ties between Pakistan and the United States.

The podcast has a series of interviews with both Americans who have traveled to Pakistan and Pakistanis who have traveled to the United States. The podcast’s mission has been accomplished by getting them to tell stories about each other’s countries that defy the stereotypes made popular by the news.

Since finishing his exchange program in the United States in 2018, Nuaman actively takes lead in initiatives that are meant to pay back to the community and build the capacity of his peers.
