As 2025 draws to a close, the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) reflects on another year defined by meaningful engagement, community impact, and strengthened people-to-people ties between Pakistan and the United States.
With a growing community of more than 45,000 alumni of U.S. Government exchange and in-country programs across 14 chapters nationwide, PUAN continues to stand among the largest and most active U.S. Government alumni networks in the world. Jointly administered by the U.S. Embassy and the USEFP Alumni Department, the Network remains committed to translating exchange experiences into real-world solutions for Pakistan’s communities.

Empowering Alumni Through Learning and Leadership
A major focus in 2025 was alumni capacity building. PUAN’s flagship five-day masterclass, “Mastering the Business Life Cycle,” held from June 23–27 in Karachi, equipped alumni with practical tools to scale businesses, build brands, manage risks, and lead with confidence. Conducted in partnership with LMKT and the National Incubation Centre Karachi, the masterclass brought together over 40 participants, blending theory with hands-on learning and peer exchange.
Advancing Dialogue on Energy, Sustainability, and Policy
In October, PUAN convened one of its most ambitious national engagements:
“Powering Progress: U.S.–Pakistan Synergy in Energy and Mineral Resources,” a two-day conference held in Islamabad in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).
The conference engaged 150 alumni and stakeholders in high-level plenaries on U.S.–Pakistan collaboration, interactive breakout sessions on sustainability, governance, and investment, and specialized masterclasses exploring innovation and energy transition pathways. Exposure visits to institutions such as the Ministry of Planning, NEECA, SDPI, and PIDE offered participants firsthand insight into policy processes and national energy frameworks. A dedicated networking dinner further connected alumni with U.S. and Pakistani industry leaders, strengthening cross-sector partnerships.
Turning Ideas into Community Impact: PUAN Grants
PUAN’s Grants Program once again demonstrated the power of alumni-led action. Through a competitive selection process, 12 grantees implemented projects under Special Theme, Open Theme, and PUAN Connects categories.
These initiatives addressed diverse priorities including entrepreneurship and Pak-U.S. business ties, ethical use of emerging technologies, free speech, peacebuilding, women’s rights, youth education, cultural heritage preservation, and chapter-based alumni engagement. Collectively, the projects showcased how exchange experiences can drive inclusive, innovative, and sustainable community impact.
A milestone this year was the First National PUAN Grants Seminar, where 11 alumni grantees presented their exchange-inspired projects to a panel of judges. Hosted in collaboration with the U.S. Mission in Pakistan, the seminar celebrated measurable impact and recognized the top three outstanding projects.
Strengthening Institutions and Local Economies
Under the Mission-Initiated Alumni Small Grants (MIASGs) program, PUAN supported a two-month initiative titled “Lead & Connect: Capacity Building for E-Commerce and Communication Excellence” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The project enhanced e-commerce, communication, and leadership skills among employees of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce, supporting its digital transformation. Through hands-on training, peer learning, and exposure visits, the initiative indirectly benefited over 1,500 entrepreneurs and community members, strengthening local enterprises and promoting sustainable economic growth.
Mentorship, Careers, and the Next Generation
The PUAN Summer Internship Program 2025 connected learning with opportunity. With 38 mentors guiding 39 interns, the program created a dynamic mentorship ecosystem involving 77 participants. Notably, 40% of mentees received job offers, underscoring the program’s role in bridging education, professional development, and employment.
Reconnecting Alumni, Rebuilding Bonds
Community remained at the heart of PUAN’s work. Across the country, 13 alumni reunions brought members together to reconnect, collaborate, and celebrate shared exchange experiences. These gatherings reinforced chapter-level engagement and renewed a collective commitment to service and collaboration.
Looking Ahead
From classrooms and conference halls to communities and marketplaces, PUAN in 2025 demonstrated the enduring value of exchange-driven leadership and alumni networks. As we look ahead, the Network remains committed to empowering its members, strengthening U.S.–Pakistan ties, and transforming ideas into impact.
