PUAN Alumna Aftab Tabassum: From Research to Advocacy

Aftab Tabassum, a Global UGRAD Fall 2021 alumna, exemplifies the impactful reach of the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN). Beyond her exchange experience at Chatham University, Pennsylvania, Aftab has distinguished herself as a master’s scholar at PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and a dedicated climate advocate. Aftab is landscaping, water conservation, and sustainable agriculture expert.

A notable achievement in her journey is recently winning a $9,000 RASTA competitive grant for her project, “Opportunities and Challenges of the Fresh Fruit Supply Chain in District Chitral.” This research directly addresses crucial issues in her home region’s agricultural sector, seeking pathways for sustainable development.

Aftab’s commitment extends to direct climate action. As the Soil and Water Coordinator at the Native Youth Club for Climate Change (NYCCC), she plays a vital role in community-level environmental initiatives. Her passion for climate education for youth was further amplified by her participation in PUAN’s “The Climate Change Emergency: Pakistan in the 21st Century and the Road to COP-28” Conference, held in Islamabad on August 5-6, 2023.

Aftab’s diverse contributions highlight the multifaceted impact of PUAN alumni in driving positive change.
