Meet and Greet: PUAN South Punjab Chapter Holds the Annual Alumni Reunion
The South Punjab’s recent annual alumni reunion showcased the remarkable impact our alumni are making across Pakistan. Equipped with knowledge and experience gained from their exchanges, including those in South Punjab, they are addressing pressing global challenges. From combating climate change to empowering women and boosting economic opportunities, our graduates are driving positive transformation. Their collaboration and innovation are propelling us towards a brighter future. USG Filmmaking Program Alumnus’ Interview Nominated for Emmy Award
Jawad Sharif’s piece “Vice World News Meets Imran Khan” was nominated for an Emmy award in the category of Outstanding Edited Interview. Sharif participated in UCLA Film Training Program for emerging filmmakers, implemented in partnership with the Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI). On his exchange experience, Sharif stated, “I am incredibly thankful to have been supported by the Humpty Dumpty Institute and the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan. The technical and artistic skills developed during the HDI program have been invaluable.” The Emmy awards will be presented in New York on September 25. Read more on our blog.
PUAN’s Alum’s Animated Masterpiece Takes Pakistan by Storm
The Glassworker, directed by our One Beat alumnus (2012), Usman Riaz, has been released in theatres in Pakistan in late July and has received praise and positive commentary due to its animation, music, and anti-war messaging. The film is the first hand-drawn feature length film to be produced in Pakistan and earned 10 million rupees in its opening weekend. The Glassworker also premiered at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival earlier in June. Usman Riaz is an artist and musician who took nearly 10 years to create the film which also marks his directorial film debut. Read more about his work here.
Driving Environmental Change in Punjab
DCM Schofer & Consul General Hawkins met with the members of climate interest group of the PUAN during their recent visit to Multan. By showcasing specific examples of alumni-led initiatives, such as reforestation efforts, sustainable agriculture practices, or clean energy projects, we can highlight the tangible impact of their work.
