Study Abroad Gives You Valuable Decision Making Skills, Applies Well to Wajeeha’s Tale of Courage

Meet our inspiring alumna Wajeeha Mumrez who went to the U.S. on the Global UGRAD program at Endicott College for the Spring 2022 semester. Being an exchange student in a foreign country can be challenging. Wajeeha’s incentive for applying to this program was to immerse herself in a diverse culture to grasp the characteristics of a foreign environment. She always used to have trouble standing up for herself since she has been indecisive, but this absolute exchange program journey paved the path for her while helping her cultivate strong leadership skills. “Self-determination is one of the best things I’ve learned while studying in the United States,” tells Wajeeha. Mental independence is the foundation of decision-making and understanding the notion of mental independence increased her direction-finding abilities as a woman. A change in environment can strongly influence decision-making. Going on-site for community activities at various locations, whether it’s Habitat for Humanity, food relief programs, or sustainability initiatives, molded her belief in what she can do as an autonomous decision-maker. “A journey, I must say, is an irresistible developmental trail that leads you to the finest form of yourself. One of the most fantastic aspects is that you form friendships with individuals from all over the world, not just from the United States,” says Wajeeha. This Global UGRAD experience has helped Wajeeha break free from her cocoon, experience diversity, manage intercultural interactions, and most importantly, foster a sense of community.
