The English Access Program Celebrates 20th Anniversary in Peshawar

The 20th-anniversary celebrations of the English Access Program in Pakistan officially commenced in Peshawar. Over 200 Access alumni attended, reflecting on the program’s significant impact on young individuals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The celebration was organized by Future Vision Building with the support of the U.S. Mission in Pakistan in partnership with the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN).

The event kicked off with remarks from Urooj, head of Vision Building, followed by a video presentation showcasing the program’s influence on students and teachers in KP, highlighting stories of resilience and academic achievement.

Country Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy Islamabad, Ms. Betina Malone praised the program for promoting English language education and empowering young individuals, especially girls, in the region.

Consul General Shante Moore delivered a keynote address, acknowledging the program’s role in shaping the futures of students and teachers in Peshawar, and congratulated it on its two decades of service to the community.

A panel discussion featuring two alumni and two teachers shared their inspiring stories, emphasizing their transformative journeys facilitated by the English Access Program. Alumni attributed their success to the program’s holistic approach to education, while teachers highlighted the benefits of innovative teaching methods acquired through the program and in turn how it is enriching the learning experience of their students.

The event also included an award distribution ceremony to recognize outstanding alumni for their achievements and contributions to the program’s success.

Festivities continued with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony symbolizing unity and collective achievements. A vibrant cultural display showcased the rich heritage of the region.

One of the key  highlights of the event was the overwhelming presence of female alumni, reflecting the program’s commitment to gender empowerment. In KP, where societal norms often pose barriers to female education, the English Access Program has been a beacon of hope, with the majority of its beneficiaries being girls.

In Peshawar, the English Access Program’s 20th Anniversary served as a reminder of the transformative power of education and the potential of every individual to shape their destiny.

The event concluded with a group photo session, capturing the spirit of the celebration and reaffirming the program’s dedication to empowering futures through education.
