Mainka Chhabria is our alumna of UGRAD program. She got the opportunity to go for the UGRAD exchange and study as a medicine student in Texas in the Fall of 2021. For the past few years, Mainka has been showcasing the power of tolerance and peace through her activism and this scholarship has only empowered her motto to contribute to a more just, tolerant, and extremism-free society. “I believe this is the best thing that ever happened to me, it has made me realize how far I have come in my journey of self-exploration and cultural awareness,” shared Mainka.
“What a joy it is, when people in a foreign land recognize and relate everything about your country with you, I come from a small town in Sindh, Pakistan and I heard one of my American friends telling me “You’re so kind and generous, I mean we just met, is this how everyone is, back in your home country?” At that point, I realized that I’m representing the true image of my native land (Pakistan) which is known for its hospitality and diversity. I’m glad I got this opportunity to be one among thousands to go for this exchange semester and have the chance to flourish my academic and social skills.” Mainka Chhabria
