Wali Applies Learning from Exchange Program to Reshape Lives

Abdul Wali Khan hails from Hundrap, a far-flung mountainous village of district Ghizer, Gilgit-Baltistan. Currently, he is pursuing his doctoral studies (Doctor of Policy Studies) at Lingnan University Hong Kong. Before joining the doctoral program, Mr. Khan has served as a teacher and headteacher for more than 10 years in both public and private sectors in northern areas of Pakistan. His areas of interest include Globalization of Education, Policy Borrowing and Lending, Higher Education Reforms, and Educational Leadership & Management.

In 2016, Wali was selected for Instructional Leadership Institute for Pakistani Educators and studied Educational Leadership and Management at the University of Massachusetts USA. Upon his return, he worked for the professional development of teachers in rural Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan. With the help of his team, Wali trained more than 150 teachers on various pedagogical themes to strengthen their professional skills. Wali feels grateful to the U.S. Embassy Pakistan providing him a life-changing opportunity to grow professionally. “Being part of the exchange program gave me a chance to explore various aspects from international point of view and then apply them in local settings accordingly upon my return” said Wali. He believes that it is integral to integrate research along with teaching in the classroom environment to improve the teaching process. Wali feels proud to be an alumnus of the US embassy Exchange program and he aims to transform the public sector education in Gilgit-Baltistan Pakistan after his doctoral studies.
