PUAN Talks: Webinar on Protection of Women and Combating GBV

Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) arranged a virtual talk about women rights and GBV under 16 Days of Activisim-2020 with sectoral experts and women of substance on Thursday, December 3, 2020 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM PST.

Panelists of the session were:
* Maheen Ghani: Psychotherapist, Designer, Humanitarian. Working on creating a platform for awareness on Mental Health. Survivor of long-term trauma and emotional abuse.

*Mahnoor Ali Syed: Survivor of gender-based violence and an activist working with civil society around anti gender-based violence discourse, policy, and action. Queens Young Leader 2019.

*Nisha Rao: Trans lawyer Pakistan’s first transgender lawyer, President of Trans Pride Society, and Member law Committee Commission of Sindh Status for Women.

* Barrister Khadija Siddiqi: Human Rights Lawyer, and activist. She is a survivor of a brutal stabbing attack in May 2016, followed by the culmination of a three-year battle for justice where at point she saw the convicted attacker, acquitted and allowed to walk free, sparking outrage and a fierce social media campaign. Motivational speaker and one of the few female practitioners of criminal law in Pakistan.

*Raabia Irfan: Graduate of software engineering degree from Military College of Signals NUST and holding a tri-role job a senior project manager cum scrum master as well as Agile coach for the APJ region, operations team lead EMEA region, and Executive Program Manager EMEA region. Raabia travels solo despite having developed disability in legs because of misdiagnosis at the age of 6 weeks. She’s breaking boundaries & misconception about disability.

Session was moderated by:
*Barrister Ayesha Siddique Khan- SUSI alumnus and Chevening scholar. Runs an Independent law practice in Islamabad and works on advocacy and policy reform. Chairperson Gender and Legal Education Committee Islamabad high court bar association.
