Untold Stories and Unheard Voices: Dr. Rakhshinda’s Mission in Print

Dr. Rakhshinda Perveen, a 2012 alumna of the Leadership for Pakistan (LFP) program and recipient of the 2015 PUAN Distinguished Alumni Award, has once again made waves in the literary and advocacy world with the release of her two latest books: FeminisTea and Bewaqt ki Raagni (Untimely Melodies). These books are not just collections of writing but powerful reflections of her journey and her commitment to giving voice to underrepresented issues and communities.

Her English-language book, FeminisTea, is inspired by her series of public podcasts, where she held honest conversations with prominent feminists, activists, and people from all walks of life, many of whom don’t explicitly identify as feminists. This book weaves together 94 pieces organized into six thoughtful sections, including “Igniting Response and Transformation – (Not) Fairy Tales” and “Outcasts of a Forgotten History,” addressing topics like gender, governance, climate change, entrepreneurship, and social justice. With a preface by Ms. Nasreen Azher, a leading voice in Pakistani women’s rights, FeminisTea explores these issues with a rare blend of critical thought and empathy.

Her Urdu book, Bewaqt ki Raagni, compiles 65 columns and blogs published across digital platforms over the past two years. In four chapters, she reflects on themes of women’s rights, politics, tributes to significant figures, and the challenges faced by displaced individuals and refugees. Through these writings, Dr. Rakhshinda brings her readers into the heart of her concerns, advocating for understanding and action.

Dr. Rakhshinda’s work and dedication offer inspiration, and her journey is a testament to resilience and independence. Now, she hopes to amplify her message further, and wonders if PUAN or Lincoln’s Corner might support her efforts by organizing a session to discuss her work. Such an event could bring together youth, activists, and social commentators for an interactive dialogue—a space for collective learning and growth.

Dr. Rakhshinda’s work reminds us of the power of words to spark change. Let us join her in sharing these untold stories and championing the voices she so passionately represents.
