Beneath a grey monsoon sky, with chilly breezes and scattered drizzles, the members of PUAN South AJK Chapter came together for their Annual Reunion 2025 on July 9 at Jabeer Marquee, Mirpur, AJK. While the weather was unpredictable, the energy inside was steady filled with warmth, reconnection, and meaningful conversations.

Instead of a traditional program filled with lengthy speeches, this year’s reunion focused on dialogue. Alumni took the stage to share personal stories about how U.S. exchange programs like TEA, Access, UGRAD, ICFJ and others transformed their lives academically, professionally, and personally.

The event was graced by Mr. Kelly Ryan, Deputy Director of Alumni Affairs at the U.S. Embassy, who joined as the chief guest. His presence and engagement reflected the continued commitment of the U.S. Mission to nurturing its vibrant alumni community across Pakistan.
The conversations underscored not only the lasting value of these programs but also how PUAN continues to serve as a meaningful platform for connection, leadership, and opportunity.
Throughout the event, several alumni shared stories that moved, inspired, and uplifted. Here are a few highlights:
1. Hassam ul Haq, Awais Tauheed, Kashif Ghafoor & Sohaib Ansar – English Access 2013–15
This group’s bond began during the English Access program and grew stronger as they studied for medical entrance exams together. Today, all four are in the final year of their MBBS degrees—a testament to the power of shared goals and lasting friendships nurtured through Access.

2. Rani Andaleeb Hussain – UGRAD 2022
Once hesitant to travel alone even within her hometown, Rani’s life transformed after her UGRAD experience. The program helped her overcome personal fears and gave her the confidence to dream bigger. She is now pursuing her MS in Microbiology and credits UGRAD for awakening her potential.
3. Kiran – UGRAD 2017
A former Vice President of the South AJK Chapter, Kiran has successfully transitioned into the corporate world. She currently serves as a Sales Manager at Zameen.com, continuing to break barriers and redefine success for women in AJK.
4. Saira Rafiq – TEA 2022
From a conventional teacher to an innovative headmistress, Saira’s journey is a powerful example of how the TEA program equips educators with modern pedagogical tools. She is now leading reform at her secondary school by implementing creative teaching methodologies.
5. Irfan Ghauri – ICFJ 2018
Seasoned journalist Irfan Ghauri completed his fellowship with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where he covered the socio-political landscape during a pivotal moment in American history. With over a decade of leadership experience at The Express Tribune, he now serves as Director News at We News, bringing global perspectives to national journalism.
Looking Ahead
Alongside the reunion and storytelling, the PUAN team also shared updates on forthcoming alumni opportunities, programs, grants, trainings, and community initiatives encouraging members to remain engaged and connected.
As the day concluded, the combination of cloudy skies, chilly breeze, and heartfelt discussions had created a warm, memorable atmosphere. The PUAN South AJK Reunion wasn’t just about reminiscing, it was about recharging a collective commitment to learning, growth, and giving back.
