PUAN Alumni Showcase Creative Talent at U.S. Embassy’s Arts Entrepreneurship Showcase

Islamabad, June 18, 2026: The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad hosted the Arts Entrepreneurship Showcase at the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), bringing together artists, designers, entrepreneurs, and cultural leaders to celebrate the role of creative industries in driving economic growth, strengthening bilateral ties, and fostering people-to-people connections.

The event featured U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker and renowned Pakistani fashion designer HSY, with the evening moderated by Tauseeq Haider, a distinguished International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) 2012 alumnus. With more than three decades of experience as a broadcaster, television host, filmmaker, and media producer, Tauseeq Haider has received numerous accolades, including awards for Best FM Host, Best TV Host, and the prestigious Tamgha-e-Eesaar.

The showcase was organized under the project “Celebrating American Fashion Excellence: Ten Decades of Innovation and Creativity,” implemented through a Mission Initiated Public Grant (MIPG) led by Tauseeq Haider as part of the United States’ Freedom 250 Initiative.

The event featured three signature components: a Freedom 250 Entrepreneurship Lecture highlighting American business expertise and entrepreneurial best practices; an Alumni Arts Marketplace showcasing the creative work of 20 Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) alumni active across Pakistan’s creative industries; and a Fashion Runway Show tracing 250 years of American design, culture, and textile innovation.

Together, these elements reflected the depth of U.S.-Pakistan collaboration across business, culture, entrepreneurship, and the arts.

Speaking at the event, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker highlighted the enduring connections between the United States and Pakistan through the textile and fashion industries.

“The textile industry is one of the most powerful linkages between our two countries. Over the past five years, Pakistani exports of finished apparel and clothing products to the United States have averaged over $4 billion dollars,” she said, adding, “Many of these garments were made from American cotton, with Pakistan importing nearly $800 million in U.S. cotton and other raw cotton inputs annually. In fact, the United States is Pakistan’s second-largest supplier of cotton, underscoring how deeply interconnected our textile supply chains are—from American fields to Pakistani factories to global markets. Pakistan is also one of the world’s leading producers of denim fabric and garments, and there is a good chance that the jeans sold in American stores began their journey right here in Pakistan. Just look at a pair of Levi’s jeans for a powerful reminder that the U.S.–Pakistan relationship is woven into the everyday lives of people in both countries.”

CDA Baker also underscored the importance of creative entrepreneurship as a catalyst for innovation, economic opportunity, and stronger bilateral partnerships.

“The United States has long believed in the power of creative industries to fuel progress and economic growth. It has been a part of our national identity since 1776. American excellence in the arts and design comes not only from talent, but from a culture that encourages experimentation, entrepreneurship, and bold new ideas. American creative industries continue to shape global conversations and inspire audiences around the world.”

A major highlight of the evening was the fashion runway presentation, which brought 250 years of American fashion history to life through textiles, design, and storytelling. The showcase offered audiences a visual journey through American creativity, innovation, and cultural evolution, illustrating how fashion continues to serve as a powerful medium for artistic expression and economic opportunity.

For PUAN alumni participating in the marketplace, the event provided a valuable platform to showcase their creative ventures, engage with industry leaders, and demonstrate the impact of U.S. exchange programs in nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation across Pakistan.

The Arts Entrepreneurship Showcase formed part of the broader Freedom 250 Initiative, a year-long celebration marking the 250th anniversary of American independence through events, partnerships, and programs that highlight American excellence, promote shared values, and deepen relationships with partner nations around the world.
