MINGORA, SWAT | July 6, 2026: Young entrepreneurs, small business owners, university students, and Pakistan–U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) members gathered in Mingora for the Swat Investment Readiness Initiative (SIRI): Promoting Transparent Trade and U.S.–Pakistan Commercial Linkages, a PUAN Grant Program project implemented under the PUAN Connect.
Led by Asif Javid, a 2019 Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) Student Leaders alumnus, the initiative aimed to strengthen investment readiness, promote transparent business practices, and enhance trade awareness among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and aspiring entrepreneurs in Swat.
Supported by the U.S. Mission in Pakistan in partnership with the Pakistan–U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN), the project addressed a key challenge facing many local businesses: limited awareness of transparent, rules-based business practices, financial documentation, export requirements, and investment preparedness necessary to compete in national and international markets.
The event brought together entrepreneurs, business students, professionals, and community stakeholders to explore practical approaches to strengthening local enterprises while fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and responsible economic growth.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions covering investment readiness, financial transparency, regulatory compliance, export opportunities, and the challenges facing SMEs in the region. The discussions encouraged participants to exchange experiences, identify practical solutions, and better understand how internationally recognized business standards can improve competitiveness and expand access to new markets.
The event generated active participation throughout the presentations and question-and-answer sessions, reflecting strong interest among entrepreneurs and aspiring business leaders in adopting transparent business practices and preparing their enterprises for future investment and commercial opportunities.
The activity also served as a valuable networking platform, enabling participants to build professional connections and exchange ideas with fellow entrepreneurs and stakeholders. The program concluded with certificate and shield presentations, followed by an informal networking session that encouraged continued dialogue and collaboration.
Asif Javid, who also serves as Executive Director of the Enlightened Youth Collective, highlighted the importance of equipping entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and market-oriented skills that can help local businesses grow responsibly while creating new economic opportunities for the region.
Implemented through the PUAN Grants Program under PUAN Connect, the initiative demonstrates how U.S. exchange alumni are applying the knowledge, leadership, and professional experience gained through U.S. exchange programs to address local economic challenges. By promoting transparent trade practices, investment readiness, and standards-based business approaches, the project contributes to strengthening entrepreneurship, supporting responsible private-sector growth, and advancing stronger U.S.–Pakistan commercial partnerships.
