PUAN Grant Equips Multan Youth with Digital Trade and E-Commerce Skills

The NextGen Global E-Commerce – Multan 2026 project continues to equip young people in South Punjab with practical digital skills, helping them prepare for careers in the global digital economy through the PUAN Grants Program, supported by the U.S. Mission to Pakistan in partnership with the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN).

Led by Arbish Shahid, an alumna of the English Access Microscholarship Program (2015–2017), the 11-week initiative is training 30 graduates and undergraduate students, including 20 women, to build export-ready digital businesses and freelance careers that connect them with international markets, particularly the United States.

During the latest phase of the project, participants completed an intensive series of workshops focused on key skills required for success in global e-commerce. The cohort concluded its Etsy training sessions, gaining a comprehensive understanding of setting up and managing online stores for international customers. Additional sessions introduced participants to Shopify, expanding their knowledge of e-commerce platforms, while graphic design workshops equipped them with the creative skills needed to develop professional digital products and strong brand identities.

Recognizing that effective communication is equally essential for success in international markets, the project also hosted a writing workshop facilitated by Noor Zahra. The session strengthened participants’ ability to create compelling product descriptions, communicate with customers, and present their brands professionally, skills that are critical for building trust and competing successfully in global online marketplaces.

The initiative is now entering its most hands-on phase. Beginning next week, participants will start practical implementation by setting up the digital infrastructure required for cross-border business. The process includes creating Payoneer accounts, linking Pakistani bank accounts, and preparing to launch their own Etsy storefronts in the coming weeks. This transition from classroom learning to real-world application represents a major milestone in helping participants generate income through international digital trade.

Implemented in collaboration with the Multan Institute of Technology (MIT Multan), the project combines technical training, mentorship, and practical business development to prepare participants for freelancing, digital entrepreneurship, and export-focused e-commerce. Beyond benefiting the 30 direct participants, the initiative is expected to create wider community impact by encouraging knowledge sharing and inspiring more young people in South Punjab to pursue opportunities in the digital economy.

Arbish Shahid’s own journey reflects the spirit of the project. From participating in the U.S. Mission-supported English Access Program to building successful e-commerce ventures on Etsy and eBay while developing expertise in full-stack development and digital entrepreneurship, she is now helping the next generation translate technology, creativity, and innovation into sustainable economic opportunities.

Through initiatives like NextGen Global E-Commerce – Multan 2026, PUAN alumni continue to strengthen workforce readiness, promote entrepreneurship, and expand opportunities for Pakistani youth to engage with the U.S. digital marketplace. By equipping participants with globally relevant digital skills, the project contributes to stronger U.S.–Pakistan economic engagement while preparing young entrepreneurs to compete confidently in the rapidly growing global digital economy.
